The idea of establishing Al Quds center came after the needs assessment UHWC did in Biet Hanoun and the suffering of the people from the Israeli occupation, besides their bad need to establish a health center in Biet Hanoun where there is no health centers except a small governmental health center that works for only one shift. The needs assessment was identified through meetings with the elders of the area and groups of the population and the physicians in the area of Biet Hanoun, where after UHWC created Al Quds center and equipped it with the available resources.
The Inauguration of the center was welcomed and supported by the population of Biet Hanoun, where voluntary youth groups from Biet Hanoun contributed to support the center.
The center was established in 1989 in a difficult times that the Palestinian people went through while the rising of the first Intifada, where the health situation was deteriorating from bad to worse, besides the Israeli policies to neglect and marginalize the health situation. This leads to the decrease in the quality of the primary health care services to the Palestinians. Therefore, UHWC took the initiative to establish this center to mind the gap in the available health services that were provided at that time by the Israeli Occupation. Above all, the raising of the Intifada in 1987 and the deteriorating of the economic and social situations and the increase of injuries, all led together to the importance of having a health center in Biet Hanoun.
